This Thursday: Dara Edwards and Greg Honeycutt

Dara EdwardsGreg HoneycuttThe next performance scheduled for the Music for the Lunch Bunch series is Thursday, July 24th at 12:15pm at First Presbyterian Church in Smithfield. Dara Edwards will perform on piano and Greg Honeycutt will present several vocal pieces.

Dara Moore Edwards received a Bachelor of Music degree in Piano Performance from UNC-Greensboro in 1980. She has taught piano in the Clayton area for 28 years. She presently has a studio in the Riverwood Cultural Arts Center. In addition to teaching, she is the Music Director at White Oak Baptist Church in Archer Lodge.

Greg Honeycutt, Baritone, is a native and resident of the Benson area.  He received the Bachelor of Music Education and Master of Music degrees in voice from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.  Having performed at various Triangle area venues, Mr. Honeycutt has been a recitalist in Campbell University’s Artist Performance Series, the Wake Tech Fine Arts Series, and Johnston County’s own Music for the Lunch Bunch Series.  In addition, he has played principal roles in productions by Capital Opera Raleigh, Benson Little Theatre, and Neuse Little Theater.  He has participated in community choral groups in Johnston, Harnett and Wake Counties.  Mr. Honeycutt serves on the faculty of Wake Technical Community College in Raleigh where he teaches music appreciation and conducts the Wake Tech Main Campus Chorus and Choral Ensemble.  He also serves on the faculty of Johnston Community College in Smithfield as a vocal music instructor.  Mr. Honeycutt is a member of Pleasant Hill Church in the Benson Community where he serves as a volunteer choir director and keyboard musician.
 
Accompanying Mr. Honeycutt on piano will be Panos Messis of Cary, NC who teaches piano at Johnston Community College.  Honeycutt and Messis will perform two German art songs by Franz Schubert as well as an arrangement by award-winning composer and Four Oaks native Chandler Carter.

The Music for the Lunch Bunch is a series of summer concerts held every Thursday, at 12:15 pm, featuring local artists performing a variety of music, with particular emphasis on classical music.  The concert series is grassroots funded by the Johnston County Arts Council and the North Carolina Arts Council. There is no admission charge but donations are accepted.
