Local Artist Profile: Chris Morgan
A truly interesting local artist is photographer Chris Morgan.
Chris began his work in the wet-plate process in 2001 after unsuccessfuly attempting to photograph local reenactments with the look and feel of the original images of the period. Shooting everything from 35mm to 4X5 at local events did not produce the images that he had prepared in his mind.
In 2001 Chris began one of his largest photographic undertakings: to research and implement the historical wet-plate collodion process of photography. Jumping in with both feet, Chris traveled to Rochester, NY to attend the Collodion Conference held at the George Eastman House. There he held his first wet-plate image, saw original equipment of the period, and met many wonderful wet-plate collodion students and photographers.
Through his study, commitment to the authenticity of the process, and the quality of his work, he has earned a reputation as one of the leading wet-plate photographers in the nation. After taking a little over 2 years off from traveling and attending reeanctment events, Chris is now heavily pursuing high quality events that focus on accurate portrayals of historic events.
Chris’ passion for wet-plate photography is evident when watching him work. The excitement of each plate poured, exposed, developed, and presented to the client is never hidden from his face.
