Millions donated to county-based arts council

Although we aren’t a major metropolitan area, we certainly have a good number of corporations nearby.  If only we could get Talecris, Caterpillar, NovoNordisk, PGI Nonwovens, or Sysco Foods to give millions for arts programming!

Exciting Event This Thursday!

I’m very excited about the third event in our Spring Lecture Series.  This Thursday (April 17th) the North Carolina Poet Laureate, Kathryn Stripling Byer, will be visiting Johnston County for a poetry workshop with local residents.  The workshop will be held at the Public Library of Johnston County and Smithfield and will last from 6:00pm-8:00pm.
We limited the [...]

Young @ Heart Chorus

I’ve received several videos by the Young @ Heart Chorus in the past year and felt it was time to share with you all.  If you don’t know about the Young at Heart Chorus, they sing to standing-room-only crowds in England, Europe and Australia. But in this country — outside their hometown, they are practically unknown.

Ray Puckett graduated from the School of Art at East Carolina University and received his M.F.A. from the University of South Florida. He [...]

Have you heard about The Rudy?

On one hand the small village of Selma, North Carolina, is perhaps an unlikely location for a musical performance theater. On the other hand what better location than one on I-95, half way between New York and Florida – just a few miles from the intersection of I-40 and I-95 – with abundant, inexpensive lodging [...]

Local Artist Profile: Cheryl McCardle

Continuing the Local Artist series, next up is Cheryl McCardle.
I think Cheryl was one of the first artists I ever met when I arrived at the Arts Council.  I’ve often called on Cheryl with questions as she is a leader in the local art scene.  Although she regularly has exhibits around the Triangle and participates [...]

Eye of the Eagle Art’s Our Green Earth Event

While being “Green” is very “in” right now, artists have always been leaders in the crusade for the environment.  Therefore it is fitting that an event that celebrates being Green also be an arts related event.  This is the final schedule for the “Our Green Earth” event being held at the Clayton Town Square.
Date: April 19th
Time: [...]

Get out of the house!

April is a busy month; the first full month of spring encourages people to get out of the house and start having fun again.  I’m personally ready to see Cat on a Hot Tin Roof and excited about the Local Yokel Sip-Off…for the bands, of course!  What are you doing this month?
See below for a list of [...]
