Local Artist Profile: Kirk Adam
I’d like to highlight some local artists through a series of profiles. Many community members remark that they don’t know who the local artists are/where they can be found. Hopefully, by doing this, it will clear up a little bit of the mystery…
I corresponded via email with Kirk Adam almost two years before I ever actually met him. Now we speak or see each other almost every week! Kirk is involved in many different artistic disciplines: the consummate artist, if you will. He headed up the Ava Gardner Film Festival this past September and is the president of the JoCo Artist Guild. If you haven’t seen this guy around town supporting arts events, then YOU aren’t attending arts events!
From his MySpace page, he states:
“I am a visual artist who is trying to be a daily painter. I also am a community leader in the arts as well as a former gallery owner, fine art teacher, art activist, art networker as well as hosting art events, curating exhibits, judging exhibits, sitting in on boards, film festival director and screener and have an art exhibit space at the Mod Basement located in the basement of Father & Son Antiques in Raleigh, NC.”
Kirk Adam is a native of Clayton, NC and not only is he an Artist, but he is also a Musician, Film/Video Maker, Teacher, Film Festival Director and as he put it “Mid Century Modern kinda guy who doesn’t stop observing life and seeks to take it all in!”
When asked how he would describe his art he replied “Colorfields! My City Scapes are from the Cities in my mind and my Colorfields are the Landscape that surrounds the Cities.”
