Happy Valentine’s Day…I guess
Well, I have to admit, I don’t really like Valentine’s Day. Its not that I’m bitter because I’ve been in a relationship almost every Valentine’s Day of my adult life with men that were very considerate and thoughtful human beings. AND, I very much appreciate the chocolates that come out this time of year; I won’t turn down a heart-shaped Reese’s Cup.
Maybe its my feminist nature that rebels against the idea of women coercing men into feeling obligated to buy jewelry, flowers, and chocolates to “prove” their love. Maybe its that I suspect the flower, jewelry, and stationary industries long ago banded together to create a ficticious holiday that would result in big $$$$ for them. Or maybe its that I think we should celebrate how much we love our sweethearts every day of the year, not just on Valentine’s and Anniversaries.
Let me just say this: On this day, I hope for you a person that shows their love in many ways other than presents on Valentine’s. I hope for you a person that cares for you when you are sick, or remembers to get your favorite flavor of ice cream when they go to the grocery store, or will call sometimes in the middle of the day just to say I Love You.
I hope you have a wonderful day, every day and I wish you a Happy February 15th, too!
