Let’s Belly Dance!
The Clayton Parks and Recreation department will be host to a one-day belly dancing workship Saturday, January 26 at The Clayton Center. Workshops for beginners and experienced belly dancers will take place throughout the day followed by a 7:00pm performance by professional belly dancers from Raleigh, Durham, Wake Forest, and Fayetteville. The performance, entitled “A Night in the Oasis,” will enthrall and mesmerize those in attendance.
Admission to the 7:00pm performance is free. However, donations will be accepted with all proceeds going to Hopes and Dreams, a non-profit organziation designed to give special needs children and adults recreational opportunities.
The Day will begin with a workshop for beginners. The class is an introduction to belly dancing and no experience is required. It is open to anyone over age 18. The cost is $25. Registration and check in is at 9:00am. The beginner’s workshop is from 10am to noon and 1pm to 3pm. Belly dancers Shahzaadee and Kasha will be the instructors.
A workshop for experienced belly dancers will be held from 10am to 3pm with a one hour lunch break. Yasmine, who has performed with the Belly Dance Superstars, will be the instructor. The cost is $50.
The benefits of belly dance are becoming widely known. An ancient dance, its popularity as a form of exercise is growing. Belly dancers have appeared on numerous television physical fitness shows.
