A New Face at the Arts Council

Starting at the beginning of January, there will be someone occupying the usually-empty second desk in the JCAC office.  Her name is Samantha Cole and she will be the full-time intern for the Johnston County Arts Council for the entire month of January.  She is a Junior at my alma mater, Hollins University, majoring in Art History, minoring in Anthropology, and getting a certification in Arts Administration.

Hollins has a “short-term” between Fall and Spring Semesters, designed specifically for the purpose of students to hold internships to gain practical experience.  During my stay at Hollins, I utilized “J-term” wisely, interning at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the North Carolina Museum of History, the Western Virginia Museum of Art, and the Queen Anne’s Revenge Project (Blackbeard’s Shipwreck off the coast of Beaufort, NC).  I fully believe that it was due to these practical, hands-on experiences that led to my current position at the Johnston County Arts Council.

During her stay at the JCAC, Samantha will get a good overview of arts administration and will also post a few entries on the blog about what its like to be “behind the scenes.”  I’ll let her introduce herself when she arrives, so stay tuned for “The Intern’s Adventure!”

YAY for you! Any chance you’ll be putting a “face” with the name in the form of a picture?

I can’t wait to read all of Samantha’s blog entries! She should gain a lot of experience coming from you. ;)

Yeah, when Samantha gets here, we’ll get a photo of her up. (Of course, I don’t have a photo up of me! :)
